April 2015 Map of the Month: Broadband Use Case Available to Addressed Properties

HighestUseCaseMap_AddPntsThis month’s map analyzes the Broadband Outreach Center’s three broadband use cases (Basic Consumer, Home Office/Education, & High Capacity) and takes the highest use case available in a location and assigns it to a known populated addressed property.

Broadband Use Case Descriptions:

Case 1, Basic Consumer Broadband: Residential availability of at least 3 Mbps download and 768 kbps upload. Allows for basic broadband internet functionality, such as browsing webpages and checking email.

Case 2, Home Office/Education Broadband: Residential availability of at least 10 Mbps download and 3 Mbps upload. Allows for basic functionality, plus video streaming and photo upload and download.

Case 3, High Capacity Broadband: Residential availability of at least 25 Mbps download and 6 Mbps upload. These speeds allow for broadband internet needed for residential and small business with high volume data usage.

The broadband use case availability is based on maximum advertised speeds available from any provider with any connection type, including fixed and mobile. The broadband availability data is current as of October 1, 2014.

The Broadband Outreach Center appreciates feedback on the definition and description of these three broadband use cases. If you have any comments, questions, or suggestions, contact Kelleigh Cole at 801-244-2866 or kcole@utah.gov.
